The Ursine Armor set in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is highly regarded by players who favor defensive playstyles and strong adrenaline management. Originating from the Bear School, this heavy armor provides immense protection against physical attacks and monster damage. Finding every diagram requires traveling across different regions, starting in the icy archipelagos of Skellige.
Locating the Basic Ursine Armor Set
To acquire the initial set of diagrams, head to the island of An Skellig in the northern region of Skellige. You must explore the ruined fortress perched along the mountainside near Yngvar's Fang. Navigating through the underground cells and pulling a key lever reveals the chest holding the full basic armor diagrams.
For the basic weapons, the steel sword diagram is located within a ruined inn in southern Ard Skellig. The silver sword diagram can be salvaged from a monster-infested ruin near the Ancient Crypt. The crossbow diagram rests on a skeleton deep inside a coastal cave on Spikeroog.
Finding Enhanced and Superior Upgrades
Upgrading your gear requires searching for additional blueprints scattered across Skellige and Velen. The Enhanced Ursine pieces are hidden in various caves and ruins across Ard Skellig, including Kaer Almhult for the steel sword. Tracking these locations becomes easier by purchasing maps from the armorer at Kaer Trolde.
The Superior Ursine diagrams shift the scavenger hunt back to the swamps and caves of central Velen. Look north of Hanged Man's Tree inside a cavern guarded by nekkers to claim the upgraded body armor. Exploring these locations systematically ensures Geralt maintains high combat durability throughout mid-game quests.
Securing Mastercrafted and Grandmaster Diagrams
Reaching the Mastercrafted tier requires visiting remote sites in southern Velen and Skellige. The armor diagram is buried inside a cave in southern Velen, requiring high-level crafting skills to forge. Obtaining these end-game blueprints grants maximum base defense before entering expansion content.
The final evolution of Bear School gear is found exclusively in the sunny region of Toussaint. Explore the collapsing red house northeast of Flovive to uncover the Grandmaster diagrams hidden in an underground passage. Gathering every piece allows players to fully unlock the complete defensive potential of the Bear School gear.
